Rapid Metro in Gurugram began its operation on 14th November, 2013. Rapid metro adds up six more metro stations in Phase I to the already existing five stations in the yellow line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in Gurugram. Rapid metro connects to DMRC metro at Sikandarpur.

The six stations in Phase I of the rapid metro are Sikandarpur, Phase 2, Vodafone Belvedere Towers, Micromax Moulsari Avenue, Induslnd Cyber City and Airtel Phase 3. The total length of metro track in Phase I is 5.1 km, of which 1.2 km length has two tracks and the remaining 3.7 km has one track.There are five trains operating on this track consisting of three coaches each. The average gap between the trains has been estimated to 4 minutes. The average footfall has been estimated to be a whopping 24,000 per hour. Each train has a capacity to carry about 800 passengers. Plans are going on to extend the Rapid metro for Gurugram’s North Extension to Udyog Vihar to and an interchange with Maruti Udyog metro station of IGI-IFFCO Chowk airport express line in Gurugram.

Phase II of the Rapid Metro station is proposed to have six more stations which are Phase 1, Sushant Lok, Sec. 42 Crossing, Sector 54-53, AIT Chowk and Sector 55–56. Phase II of rapid metro has been projected to be completed in 2015. Phase II will have seven km of double track extending south of Sikanderpur station along Golf Course Road.

The rapid metro trains will run from 6:00 in the morning to 12:20 at night.

Rapid metro stations in Gurugram

Sikandarpur metro station

Sikandarpur metro station is the interchange station to cross over from Delhi Metro to Rapid Metro Network. Entry to this station is from both side of the roads and the walkaway has been elevated for passengers to cross over from Delhi Metro to Rapid Metro station. This interchange station has been estimated to benefit around three to five lakh passengers who earlier had to commute to these places by auto or bus.

Vodafone Belvedere towers station

Vodafone Belvedere towers station is in proximity to Belvedere Towers and DLF Phase 2, so it is a boon for many residents there. Entry to this station is from both side of the roads and the walkaway has been elevated for passengers, building no. 10 is at a walkable distance from this station.

Rapid Metro feeder buses

For the convenience of its passengers there are buses (both AC and Non AC) available from Micromax Moulsari metro station to different places in the city which are known as feeder buses.

Rapid Metro Gurugram Metro fares

All the Gurugram stations can be covered within a flat fare of Rs. 12. In essence the fare ranges from Rs. 8 to Rs. 30. Delhi metro and Rapid metro both adopts ticketing system to gain entry into the metro which includes Metro card and Metro token.

Rapid Metro Smart Card

Delhi metro card is applicable to travel on Rapid metro also. It is an electronic card which can be bought after an initial payment of Rs. 150/-in which Rs. 50/- will remain as balance,  after that you can recharge a multiple of Rs. 50/- up to a maximum of Rs. 1000/-. Metro card has more advantage than tokens as there is a 10 percent discount on card for every travel and also you can avoid the hassle of standing in a long queue every time to buy tickets. The balance automatically gets deducted when you swap the card at the exit station. Smart card is valid up to one year.

Rapid Metro tokens

Here also the Delhi metro token are valid in Rapid Metro. You have to purchase the tokens at the boarding station, with the value from source to destination. You have to drop the token at the gates to exit from the station. If you want you can get refund of the tokens within 60 minutes of purchase. The travel time limit is 170 minutes after which there is a penalty at the rate of Rs. 10 per hour. 

Also please note that you will be charged a combine fare of Rs. 20/- when you enter from the Delhi Metro Sikanderpur Station & exit from the Rapid Metro Sikanderpur Station without travelling on the train.
